Grenade blast at digging site in Lamitan: Teen dead PDF Print E-mail

A 17-year-old boy was killed after a grenade exploded in an excavation site where some people were digging for supposed hidden treasures in Lamitan City last Monday.

A police report identified the fatality as Jhon Edward Handang, a farmer of Barangay Calugusan, Lamitan City, Basilan.

Investigation disclosed that Handang and his companion Roberto Trumata went down the excavation site seven meters below the ground where they were tasked to scoop water.

Trumata was positioned down the hole, while Handang was to receive the pail of water from the latter. However, Handang, picked a stone and underneath was grenade that exploded in his midst.

Handang suffered shrapnel wounds in the different parts of the body. —  Richard Falcatan
