The opening of KCC Mall de Zamboanga is expected to have significant and positive impact on the city’s economy not only because it is the biggest investment ever made in the city but also due to its substantial contribution to job generation.

KCC records show that 8,809 workers, 75% of which Zamboanguenos have been hired since the mall, considered as the biggest and largest in Mindanao opened its doors  to residents. Apart from the KCC workforce, the mall’s tenants have also hired over 2,000 workers, 90% of which also Zamboanguenos.

The hiring of the workers was facilitated by the Public Employment Service Office under the City Social Welfare and Development Office in partnership with    the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The City Investment and Promotions Division under the Office of the City Mayor has expressed optimism that the innovative and brave action of KCC in bringing their investment into the city will definitely reduce the city’s unemployment rate thereby improving the living conditions of the people.

“The best contribution of KCC Mall de Zamboanga does not only end in its sincere interest to put in the biggest investment ever made in our city but above all, the employment that it had given our constituents, regardless of educational background, race and religion,” the Investment and Promotions Division said in a press statement.

KCC Mall de Zamboanga opened formally opened Dec. 10 with throngs of people trooping to the mall resulting to monstrous traffic jams on roads leading to the area. “As the saying goes, there is no glory without sacrifice and the inconveniences that we encounter now are only temporary compared to the convenience that it will give our children in the days to come.”

KCC was a recipient of the Investment Award during the Achievers’ Night held in celebration of the Dia de Zamboanga last February. — Sheila Covarrubias
