Congressman Celso Lobregat spread Christmas cheers to barangay officials of the city’s 98 barangays by tendering the traditional Christmas Party and gift-giving on Friday at Marcian Garden Hotel’s Palacio del Sur.

Lobregat was joined by District 2 Congresswoman Lilia Nuño who also gifted the village leaders with assorted presents.

Lobregat, in his Christmas message, called on the barangay officials to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. He said that while Christmas is the time to commemorate the birthday of Niño Jesus, we should also remember the past or where we came from and value that relationship with friends and loved ones who once became part of our lives. It is also the time, Lobregat said, to give thanks for the bountiful blessings we now enjoy and to share such graces with others.

For her part, District 2 Congresswoman Nuño, in her Christmas message, reminded that this is the season when the Muslim World is also celebrating the birthday of Prophet Mohammed. Nuño said the celebration of the birth of Jesus and Prophet Mohammed is being observed almost at the same time which means that Christians and Muslims should be united.

Both Congressmen Lobregat and Nuño shared with the barangay chairman as well as their respective kagawads with Christmas presents and raffled off a variety of gift items.

As a major highlight of the Christmas get-together was the raffle of the major prizes such as a Honda Wave motorcycle, refrigerator, washing machine, 24” flat screen TV, rice cookers, flat irons, stand and desk fans, turbo broiler, thermos, oven toaster, and cellphones. All barangay chairmen present also received individual gift packages from both congressional representatives.,

Joining Cong. Lobregat and Nuño were District 1 Councilors Noning Biel, Gerky Valesco, Charlie Mariano, Myra Paz Valderrosa Abubakar, former Councilor Rudy Lim, San Roque Barangay Chairman Joselito Macrohon, Baliwasan Barangay Chairman Boday Cabato, former Campo Islam Barangay Chairman Haj Sandag and Kaizer Olaso.

From District 2, those present were Councilors Mike Alavar, BG Guingona, VP Elago, Percival Ramos, Jerry Perez, former Councilor Rey Candido, former City Social Welfare Development Officer Kit Barredo, Tugbungan Barangay Chairman Jun Graciano, and Taluksangay Barangay Kagawad Lilibeth Nuño. —  Jubels Santos
