An army soldier was killed while his comrade was wounded in an ambush in Asturias, Sulu on Christmas day.

Killed was Pvt. Bryan Sanoy and wounded was Cpl. Eduardo Villana.

A police report disclosed that Sanoy and Villana were riding tandem on a motorcycle passing Barangay Asturias coming from Indanan around 9:20 a.m. when armed men believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group rained them with bullets.

Sanoy sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot, while Villa managed to escape despite the bullet wounds.

Villa then was taken to the Camp Bautista hospital where he was confined.

Sanoy’s body was retrieved by some helpful residents and was turned over to the morgue.

Meanwhile, Abu Sayyaf gunmen harassed the (Marines) MBLT8 detachment in Barangay Miling, Maimbung, Sulu last Thursday night.

Marines returned fire triggering a 10-minute gunbattle.

PFC Jessie Tungcol was killed in action while Cpl. Riva and PFC Makiling were wounded.
