Mayor Beng Climaco Monday outlined her administration’s 2016 agenda but stressed that building up the role of Zamboanga City in national development would form part of her administration’s focus next year.

“If in the past our priorities were Security, Health, and Education, now we are looking at how Zamboanga City will help the nation,” said Climaco Monday, December 28.

The mayor cited some of the City’s initiatives which have contributed greatly and made an impact in the nation’s performance in security and health – the City’s P200 M support and other aid for the Philippine National Police as well as the City’s anti-bulati program, which “boosted” the Department of Health’s national deworming program, and nutrition program, which garnered regional accolades.

Climaco also expressed her desire to procure 50,000 chairs to ensure every schoolchild will have chairs in the 2016 school year.

“Zamboanga City has contributed a lot of school buildings. I understood, in the previous administration, there was an agreement that if the City gives the building, DepEd is supposed to provide the chairs. Unfortunately, it was not met and so we set aside funds [for this],” she said.

Asked on how she would describe her 2015 performance, Climaco said the answer would be up to the people.

She likewise thanked the local government workforce for the support that have made possible the initiatives and accomplishments of the City Government which she will be reporting in her State of the City Report on January 2016.  — Jasmine Mohammadsali
