Mayor Beng Climaco on Monday allayed fears of terror threats in the city as she assured that security concerns are responded to and addressed by the police and military with the support of the local government.

The city government, according to the chief executive, has been spending for the weekly fusion of intelligence resources in the city and the region as part of the aggressive measures of the government.

She said the local government unit is also closely coordinating with the LGUs of Sulu and Basilan and the neighboring provinces in a bid to avert any and all threats in the city.

“And I received an assurance from no less than (Police Regional Director) Gen. Miguel Antonio that he will be the person in charge of ensuring that our city is safe,” Mayor Climaco told the members of the media during her regular press briefing Monday morning. “We are also coordinating with the Western Mindanao Command.”

She assured that the safety of each and every individual in the city is the primordial concern of the authorities.

“We are working very hard together with the business sector,” the mayor said referring to security concerns in some business establishments.

Nevertheless, Mayor Climaco said, she is satisfied with the steps being undertaken by the different business establishments such as City Mall, Astoria Hotel and KCC Mall which have acquired their own K-9 units that help lessen the workload of the authorities.

On the other hand, the chief executive called on the public to continue vigilance and support to the police and military authorities and help curb threats in the city. — Sheila Covarrubias
