Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday assured that two of the city’s social services centers that were damaged during the infamous September 2013 siege will be among the priorities for repairs and rehabilitation this year.

Speaking to members of the local media during the regular press briefing at City Hall yesterday morning, the city executive revealed that the offices of the City Engineer and the OIC-City Administrator already received instructions to facilitate the prompt restoration of the Social Development Center (SDC) and the Women Crisis Center (WCC).

In addition, both offices were directed to review the poor drainage system in both structures as well as to determine the cost of clearing stagnant wastes that are clogging the sewers.

The mayor assured that the safety of the children is the city’s priority. “That is really our priority – the safety of our children at the SDC – and we want to ensure that the staff our responsive.”

Both centers are run by the local government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office. The Social Development Center temporarily houses abandoned children while the Women Crisis Center provides assistance to abused and battered women. — Claudine Uniana
