An Abu Sayyaf militant was arrested by government forces in Patikul, Sulu last Monday afternoon.

Joint Task Group Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arojado identified the arrested militant as Junni Jumala.

Arojado ssaid some residents of Barangay Umangay, Patikul reported to a police Compac around 1 p.m. that they spotted Jumala in their vicinity.

Immediately policemen coordinated with the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion headed by Lt. Peralta and a follow-up operation ensued in Barangays Umangay and Tanduh Bagua.

Jumala was cornered and arrested, Arojado said.

Government forces recovered a .38 caliber revolver with 18 bullets from the possession of Jumala.

Authorities said Jumala was responsible for the ambush of Vice Mayor Jun Tarsum last December and for a string of liquidations in Jolo and Patikul.

Jumala was also linked to a series of kidnappings in Sulu.
