Good news to Zamboangueño basketball fans and players
Team Zamboanga headed by former RP Youth Player Junie Navarro is lucky to enter the finals of the much-awaited and first ever NBA 3 on 3  Basketball Tournament being held at the Mall of Asia in Manila.

Undoubtedly, the Zamboangueno players have displayed good performance and guts in the court by bagging five straight wins in the ongoing prestigious basketball tourney.

In the quarter-finals, Team Zamboanga routed La Salle Canlubang with a high score of 15-8, thus gaining a slot in the semis. Manila-based Zamboanguenos, who were at the MOA watching and cheering for their team, were all in their feet, during the crucial game held last week
During yesterday’s semi-finals, Team Zamboanga again proved their prowess and experience in the hard court by defeating the North
Luzon Team, dominating the game from the very start and ending it with a score of 15-9.

“We’re very happy to be able to enter in the finals of this NBA 3 on 3 Tournament. Indeed, our hard work, experience and perseverance paid off,” Navarro, who played in the varsity of Ateneo de Zamboanga University during his high school and college years, told DZT in a mobile phone interview from Manila.

Joining Navarro in the formidable Team Zamboanga are noted Zamboangueno players like Jomie Alvarez, more popularly known as “Shooter”, Alvin Munio and David Sebastian.

These players already have many experiences in various leagues in Manila for several years now.
Navarro said the team never expected to dominate the North Luzon Team especially it has more veteran and experienced players like former UAAP player Howard Flor.

“But Team Zamboanga did its best and so we were able to beat the big guys in the tight physical game in the hard court. We are very happy and eager to enter the finals,” Navarro stressed during the interview.

He said whichever team bag the championship will represent the Philippines in other countries to play on the NBA 3 on 3.
Former Chicago Bulls star Horace Grant will be in the country to grace the championship games.

The ongoing NBA 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament is the first ever to be held in the Philippines.
