The city government is once again in the thick of preparations for the third State of the City Address (SOCA) of Mayor Beng Climaco on Jan. 12 at Centro Latino, Paseo del Mar complex.

A tradition that started during the incumbency of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, the SOCA is an annual venue for the local chief executive, the vice mayor and the city’s two congress persons to report to the people of Zamboanga their respective accomplishments for the past year and their plans for the year to come during their term of office.

Thus, on Tuesday Mayor Climaco together with Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, Rep. Celso Lobregat of District 1 and Rep. Lilia Nuño of District 2 will deliver their respective accomplishments and other programmed projects.

Climaco’s report, however, encompasses the state of the entire city of Zamboanga, focusing on her priority thrusts on Security, Health and Education (SHE).

She will also highlight the accomplishments and targets of all 19 departments of the city government and the two vocational technical schools in Ayala and Vitali.

The SOCA, highly regarded as well as a fashion event for women, offers the opportunity for the people to know how the local executive, legislative and congressional officials faired in their targets through their soon-to-end three-year term.

People from different sectors of society are usually invited to the SOCA.— Vic Larato
