Mayor Beng Climaco vigorously pursues her commitment to bring the government closer to the barangays, as she led the turnover of an infrastructure project and the conduct of Dia del Alcalde in barangay Calarian in the west coast Tuesday.

Turned over was the P500,000 Center for the Elderly constructed inside the barangay complex in Calarian where the barangay hall, barangay health center and fire station are also located.

At the same time, the mayor also rolled out the Dia del Alcalde, the provision of free services that include medical and dental, registry, veterinary, agriculture and other city government services.

Joining in the caravan were personnel from the Philhealth Insurance Corporation who distributed Philhealth identification cards to indigents earlier identified and an eye care center which distributes free eye glasses.

Under her administration, Climaco said barangay Calarian led by Chairman El King Omaga has received various infrastructures – some of which are completed, some ongoing while others are to be started. These projects include the construction of a school building, rehabilitation of drainage system, installation of solar power system and numerous others.

In her message, the mayor said the local government, through her priority thrust Security Health and Education, will do everything possible to ensure the protection and welfare of the residents in the city’s 98 barangays.

She asked the residents of Calarian to help the local government in its advocacy to build back a better Zamboanga.

Meanwhile, hundreds of indigents availed of the free services provided by personnel from the offices of the City Health, Civil Registry, City Veterinary, City Agriculture and other offices during the Dia del Alcalde program. — Sheila Covarrubias
