The commemorative activities for the first anniversary of the Mamasapano Massacre where 44 PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) troopers were killed will be held on Monday afternoon, January 25 at SAF headquarters in Mercedes.

The simple rites to honor the fallen 44 SAF members will be co-organized by the 55th Special Action Force Company under the 5th Special Action Force Battalion of the PNP-SAF and the Zamboanga City Economic Zone and Freeport Authority.

The activities will include a mass and a commemorative program with police, Zamboecozone and city government officials spearheading the ceremony. Some relatives of the fallen 44 who are from Zamboanga City are also set to attend the commemorative rites.

The earlier scheduled unveiling of the SAF marker inside the Ecozone area in San Ramon as tribute to the fallen SAF troopers has been postponed to a later date. The marker is also to show gratitude to the 55th Special Action Force Company under the 5th Special Action Force Battalion of the PNP-SAF whose forces have provided security to the Ecozone for the past two years.

Forty four police officers from the PNP SAF were killed during an 11-hour firefight with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25, 2015.
