Mayor Beng Climaco and the team involved in the implementation of the Zamboanga City Roadmap to Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) will meet with Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson in Manila on Monday to discuss updates concerning the construction of permanent houses and the present condition in transitory sites.

The meeting is one of the series of activities that Singson, chair of the Z3R national team, has set to constantly update all concerned on the progress of housing projects, as thousands of internally displaced persons remain in transitory sites 2 years and 4 months after the siege.

Mayor Climaco said she wants to ensure that the housing units are compliant with all the rules and regulations and as soon as the houses are completed and compliant the return of the IDPs will follow.

“We want the return of the IDPs (to their permanent houses) the sooner the better,” the chief executive declared.

Aside from updates concerning the permanent houses and the situation in the 12 transitory sites, another important issue to tackle will be the progress in the construction of the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial grandstand which was converted as the biggest evacuation center at the time of the humanitarian crisis.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) reported a 35.97% completion rate in the construction of houses underZ3R as of December 31, 2015.  Most of the projects are set to be complete March 2016, according to the NHA.

The Camp Coordination and Camp Management meanwhile, reported that as of January 11, a total of 2,293 families with 16,880 remain in transitory sites located at the Mariki Elementary School, Lupa-lupa in Rio Hondo, Buggoc in Kasanyangan, Kasanyangan, Mampang 1, Mampang II, Mampang III, PTSI in Calarian and Rio Hondo, Silsillah DMP, Taluksangay and Tulungatung. — Sheila Covarrubias
