The concreting of the Mayor Maria Clara L. Lobregat Highway and the highway going to Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur has forced shipping lines to stop operating in the Pagadian City-Zamboanga City.

Maritime Industry Authority 9 Director Irving L. Saipudin disclosed that the road going to Pagadian City is now concreted and in good condition, making many commuters avail of airconditioned buses instead of boatrides.

Cargo trucks now also make daily trips to Zamboanga del sur where the road is connected to other cities in Mindanao. Private vehicles’ trip from Zamboanga City to Pagadian City takes only four to five hours, while commercial buses are seven hours travel.

According to Atty. Saipudin, the same thing happened in the Pagadian City -Cotabato City where boat trips have stopped. The road linking Pagadian City to Cotabato City is now also  concreted. Private vehicles’ trip takes three to four hours.

Saipudin said most operations in the Pagadian Port come fishing boats.
Saipudin regularly visits Pagadian City where MARINA-9 has an extension office serving  applicants of Seafarers Identification Record Book and registration and renewal of licenses of fishing boats and vessels in Zamboanga del Sur. — Allen Abastillas
