In line with the city government’s accelerated social services, some 24 families who were victims of previous fire incidents that occurred separately in 3 barangays received financial assistance to help ameliorate their plight.

Mayor Celso Lobregat led the distribution of the cash assistance to the families during simple rites held at the City Hall conference room yesterday afternoon. He was assisted by City Social Welfare Officer Francisco Barredo, whose office facilitates the grant of the financial assistance.

The family-beneficiaries were displaced by the fire incident in Sta. Maria that occurred May 1, Sta. Catalina and San Jose Cawa-cawa that occurred May 20.

House owners received P5,000; house sharers got P3,000 each while house renters and boarders got P1,500 each. The amount of assistance is based on the rates set by the City Disaster Coordinating Council, now called the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

For the Sta. Maria fire victims, P49,000.00 were allocated per damage evaluation from CSWDO, P13,500.00 for Sta. Catalina and P3,000.00 for San Jose Cawa-Cawa.

The City has always been extending financial assistance to families and individuals who fall victims of fire, floods and other disasters.
“We are very happy that the City thru Mayor Lobregat was able to extend financial assistance to these fire victims. The amount given were not that big but it is enough to help them cope with the unfortunate event”, Barredo said after the cash distribution. — Richard Aliangan/City Hall PIO
