“ Hindi matirhan yong bahay na binigay nila sa amin. Puro palabas lang ang sinasabi nila na benefisyo ng namatay ko na anak na nagbuwis na buhay para sa bayan. (The house the government gave us is not habitable. The benefits they say for my son and the rest who sacrificed their lives for the country were all for show.)”

Thus complained Mrs. Rohermina Asjali, mother of Special Action Force trooper PO3 Jed-In A. Asjali who was among the 44 commandos killed in the Mamasapano botched raid one year ago.

Mrs. Pabalinas wife of the late SAF Officer Sr. Inspector Ryan Pabalinas who was also among the fallen 44 trooper, said she did not receive any benefits from the government. She only receive the usual assistance for a fallen police.

According to her,  the papers for the  benefits are still in process.

“ Hindi po ako sasama sa Manila para ma meet mga Malacañang officials. Doon na lang ako magpunta sa tomb ni Ryan at mag-pray na lang. Nakakapagod pumunta sa Manila wala din naman mangyari,” Pabalinas said.

Last Sunday Mrs. Pabalinas, Mrs. Asjali and other relatives of the so-called fallen SAF 44 met with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in a local hotel.       Duterte was puzzled wy the SAF troopers were tasked for the Mamasapano operation in a mountainous terrain in when in fact they are policemen.

“They are highly physically and morally trained in a highly urbanized city but not in the mountain. The Six Division of the Philippine Army should have operated in the area and get the terrorists,” Duterte said.

He claimed that President Aquino was aware of the whole operation.

Duterte said  the top officials who gave the go-signal to operate must be held  responcible and the man behind the operation should be held liable for the tragedy.  — Allen Abastillas
