Zamboanga del Sur Governor Antonio Cerilles  on Thursday graced the closing program of the three-day “ Summit for Target Hardening on Bombing Incidents Involving Transport Sector in Zamboanga Peninsula  held at Casa Latino, Paseo del Mar.

Cerilles lauded Police Regional Office-9 Director Chief Supt. Miguel C. Antonio Jr. for intiating the summit involving the transport sector in the region to combat lawlessness.

The successful summit was fully supported by Mayor Isabelle Climaco- Salazar and Director Leonardo M. Auxilio of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency 9.

PRO-9 Deputy Regional Director for Operations Sr. Supt. Debold Sinas said that after taking all the inputs and suggestions from the participants during the summit, it will undergo thorough study before coming up with plans and programs on how to implement measures.

One participant suggested that ambulant vendors should be removed and not be allowed inside the port to sell their products when boats depart or arrive.

Ambulant vendors can be tricked or be  induced with money by any terrorist or lawless element to carry their bomb aboard a boat or a bus in the terminal, the participant said.

“The presence of ambulant vendors aboard a boat is dangerous ... they can anytime be paid by terrorist. It will endanger the lives of the passengers and the boat itself,” he said.

Concerned agencies like the Philippine Ports Authority, Maritime Authority and Industry and also the Philippine Coast Guard should study it carefully and ambulant vendors must be removed from the port or bus terminal.

Sinas said that they will study all the inputs and suggestions of the participants. — Allen Abastillas
