Team Zambo gets praises for winning NBA 3 on 3 PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Celso L. Lobregat on Tuesday hailed Team Zamboanga for bringing honor and prestige to Zamboanga City after bagging the much-anticipated and first ever National Basketball Association (NBA) 3 on 3 held recently in the Mall of Asia in Manila.

Lobregat said Team Zamboanga, composed of true-blooded Zamboangueños, was able to put Zamboanga City in the sports map, and thus giving pride not only to local basketball players and fans but to the entire local populace.

“We are elated and proud of your achievement. You brought honor to our beloved city,” Lobregat told the four players during their courtesy call to the mayor at City Hall on Tuesday.
The mayor said the diligence and perseverance of these local athletes paid off, and thus brought pride not only to themselves and families but to the entire Zamboagueño people.
Team Zamboanga is composed of local players former RP Youth player Junie Navarro, Alvin Munio, Kambal Sebastian and Wang Alvarez.

Navarro, who heads the team, said they are grateful to Lobregat for giving them warm welcome and also for the mayor’s commitment in further promoting and developing sports here in the city.
“We’re grateful to Mayor Lobregat and to our local officials for their support and assistance. This will give us more inspiration to further excel in basketball,” Navarro emphasized.

The city government, for many years now, has been consistent in providing logistical and financial incentives to promising athletes and players who win in regional, national and international competitions.

Meanwhile, Team Zamboanga also paid courtesy call on Vice Mayor Cesar Ituralde and the members of the City Council during the Council’s regular session yesterday.
Ituralde said the members of the local august body are proud of the Zamboagueño players for winning the championship of the prestigious.sports competition.

Councilor Vincent Paul Elago said the success of Team Zamboanga should serve as an inspiration to local athletes and players to continue to persevere in their respective sports event.
For his part, Councilor Percival Ramos expressed hope that Team Zamboanga will also win in the coming NBA 3 on 3 South East Asia which will be held in Hongkong. — Jemuel E. Mojica
