Two improvised explosive devices were recovered in Barangay Bon-Bon, Patikul, Sulu Thursday afternoon.

Joint Task Group Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arojado disclosed that the explosives was found around 3:30 p.m.

An informant of the army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion reported that there was an IED spotted at the farmland of a certain Hussein 200 meters away from an abandoned army detachment at Sitio Bulabog in Barangay Bon-Bon.

Bomb experts and other soldiers rushed to the place and safely retrieved the IED fashioned from two 81 mm mortar shells with 15 meters flat cord wire inside a hole along the road.

Troops believed the IED was planted by Abu Sayyaf militants and intended as landmine targetting military vehicles. — Dan Toribio
