Boat carrying 30 armed men spotted off Basilan PDF Print E-mail

The PNP’s Regional  Maritime Unit 9 on Friday said that a seacraft carrying 30 persons with high powered  firearms was spotted early this week  off Barangay Tampalan in Malamawi island, Basilan.

Supt. Salbino Piad, RMU-9 chief, said that a “Palakaya” vessel carrying 30 heavily armed men was spotted by the barangay intelligence network of Malamawi island  sailing through the Basilan sea lane.

“We are validating and evaluating the report from the intelligence community on its veracity,” Piad said.

According to Piad,  his command has remained high alert eventhough the situation is normal.

“ We are still in full alert as of this moment,”,Piad said.

Meanwhile, The Maritime Unit National Headquarter recently received a Silver Eagle Award in compliance of the  Performance Governance System ( PGS ) Patrol Plan 2030 of the Philippine National Police.

“ With all our hardwork and performance here in the region. We are also awarded a Silver Eagle Award for the PGS compliance of the Patrol Plan 2030  of the Philippine National Police,” Piad said.

Police and military forces have intensified security measures n Zamboanga City amid unconfirmed reports of armed men massing in the border with Zamboanga Sibugay.
