The mayor of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi province was shot and wounded yesterday morning in Zamboanga City in what is suspected as politically motivated attack.

The attempted assassination took place just few meters from a police outpost and comes amid the Comelec gun ban.

Bongao Mayor Jasper Que had just arrived from Tawi Tawi and his driver and some companions fetched him at the Zamboanga City airport.

While his Isuzu Sportivo was running on its way to Que’s residence in San Jose, a motorcycle with two men riding in tandem sidled up near the Baliwasan Central School and the backrider opened fire targetting Que who was sitting beside the driver on front seat.

The gunmen sped away after the incident while Que was rushed to a hospital by his driver.

Que sustained bullet wounds in the body and relatives said he was in stable condition.

The Isuzu SUV more bullet holes on its right side.
