Mayor Beng Climaco has directed the mobilization of local government response to address the needs of families affected by a fire incident in Kasanyangan Monday night, February 8.

Climaco mobilized local government support through Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) headed by Dr. Elmeir Apolinario for the immediate emergency response, and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) headed by Socorro Rojas and the barangay officials for social support and assistance to the affected families.

The fire incident that hit Duston Drive in barangay Kasanyangan around 8pm was contained after an hour. Preliminary investigation showed that an unattended candle might have caused the conflagration.

A CDRRMO report said the incident was caused by unattended lighted candle that was left unattended by the house owner.

The fire gutted down 5 houses displacing 10 families with 50 individuals. One person was rushed to the hospital due to suffocation.

CDRRMO head Dr. Elmeir Apolinario said the displaced families are temporarily staying either with their relatives or evacuated to Masepla, as the government is still looking into their relocation.

Meanwhile, Climaco appealed to residents to avoid burning leaves and other refuse in their backyard to prevent occurrences of fire. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
