To help ensure peace and security in the city, Mayor Beng Climaco renews her call for residents to remain vigilant but calm and to continuously support and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.

“We are doing our best to ensure safety and security of everybody,” the mayor said as she appealed to people not to circulate unverified text messages or repost unverified reports in the social media so as not to alarm people.

She assured that the police under City OIC Director Col. Luisito Magnaye and Task Force Zamboanga under Col. Juvy Max Uy have prepared contingency plans and are very much in control of the situation.

“No mas enseguidas cree aserca maga amenaso y no mas hace calayat con este [Do not immediately accept reports as true and do not immediately spread these messages unless they are verified],” the mayor said. “It is not very helpful to spread it and we should know our responsibilities as civilians.”

As chief executive, Climaco said she is working closely with the authorities and the community stressing that the overriding priority is to keep the city and the people safe.

-crime efforts and contingency plans remain under constant review and both overt and covert strategies are being employed as part of the aggressive security measures, she added.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and aware and to report authorities any suspicious activities or presence of suspicious individuals, baggage/item or abandoned vehicles in their area,” Mayor Climaco said. — Sheila Covarrubias
