Five Zamboangueño youth leaders were feted for outstanding leadership, excellence, and commitment to civic service excellence in the Five Outstanding Zamboangueño Young Leaders (FOZYL) Awards held Tuesday, February 9.

This year’s FOZYL awardees were Arnold Ferolino, Kenneth Al-John Abas, Arthur Joshua Rodriguez, Nafieza Mohammad, and Raemond Angelo Karagdag who underwent a rigorous selection and interview process before being feted.

The recognition, the highlight of the Dia de Roseller T. Lim, was conferred to the five winners by Rudy Lim and the family of the late Senator Lim, Councilor Elong Natividad, and District I Representative Celso Lobregat, and other local officials.

Natividad, who represented Mayor Beng Climaco to the event, lauded the young leaders as inspirations to all public servants.

“We draw inspiration and strength anew from these fine young leaders who have proven to us that leadership is not a numbers game – it is a matter of the heart and the mind choosing the noble calling of service,” said Natividad.

He likewise noted that Roseller T. Lim’s legacy of service and excellence lives on in the new generation of leaders and will always be intertwined with the history of Zamboanga City.

The FOZYL is an annual award program spearheaded by the local government and the JCI as a tribute to the exemplary character of the first and only Zamboangueño Senator Roseller T. Lim and is conferred to youths who possess and demonstrate qualities of leadership, excellence, and commitment to service epitomize by the late Sen. Lim. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
