A barber was shot and seriously wounded by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Canelar at dawn yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Raul Francisco y Corencho, a native of Basilan province. He sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and was taken to the hospital.

Francisco was shot around 1:30 a.m. in front of Popeye Barber Shop where he was working,

Erwin Ledesma, owner of the barbershop, was arrested after Francisco pointed to  him as allegedly behind  the shooting.

Police quoted Francisco as saying while in the hospital that Ledesma hired two gunmen to kill him.

Francisco also accused Ledesma of having an affair with his live-in-partner who left him last December.

Police said that last Saturday Francisco went to the police station and told investigators that there were two gunmen riding tandem on a Honda XRM motorcycle who wanted to shoot him while he was performing his work as a barber in Canelar.

On the other hand, Ledesma told the police that last Saturday around 2 p.m. Francisco abandoned his customer inside the barber shop and ran out bringing a pair of scissors saying that there were persons who wanted to kill him.

Ledesma added that since last Saturday, Francisco did not return to his barber shop until dawn yesterday he learned that the latter was shot along Canelar road, in front of his barber shop.

Ledesma said that Francisco is a drug user who often went to Canelar Barter after work.

Insp. Albert Alfaro, chief of the Investigation Section, said that Ledesma will be brought to the City Prosecutor Office for inquest for frustrated murder.— Dan Toribio Jr.
