A fishing boat operator and two crew members were abducted by suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen in midsea somewhere between Zamboanga City and Basilan last Sunday.

The abduction was reported to the policeat 9 a.m. Monday  in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur by Marilou Mangudlay, 39, a businesswoman, who said that her husband Ronnie Lantikse Bancale called her by mobile phone informing her that he and his crews identified as Romeo Okay Rubio, 52, married, and Wenie Salahop Pandiag, 41 married, have been seized and were being held by gunmen.

Marilou quoted her husband as saying that  he and his crews left the wharf at Baliwasan, Zamboanga City around 2 a.m. on Sunday to fish between Zamboanga City and Basilan.

While they were in midsea,  gunmen aboard another seacraft arrived and commandeered their fishing boat named Kyle Kian.

Bancale told her wife that the kidnapppers had initially demanded P50,000 and later increased it to P1,000,000. as ransom

The fishing boat  was registered at the Municipality of Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur.
