Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday said she will personally meet with Vice-President Jejomar Binay, who is also the country’s housing czar, to determine how could they avail of the funding alloted by Pag-IBIG for housing projects.

This, as Binay announced yesterday that Pag-IBIG has alloted the total amount of P50 billion for this year’s housing projects and P1 billion of which is intended for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Region IX.

Akbar said the funding allocation will be of great help to the Pag-IBIG members in Basilan province, especially those who still don’t have a house, “which they can call of their own.”
Akbar said the province has several ideal lands that could be developed into housing project sites for both in the formal and informal sectors through the help of Pag-IBIG and other concerned shelter
agencies.

Akbar noted that there are several housing programs and services being implemented by the National Housing Authority (NHA), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC), the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), and Pag-IBIG which the Basileños can avail.

She lauded Binay for initiating the two-day Region IX and ARMM-Pabahay Caravan 2011 as it brings the shelter agencies closer to the people both in the formal and informal sectors.
Meanwhile, Akbar said they will start identifying areas in Basilan that could be developed into housing projects sites with the assistance from the shelter agencies.
