Authorities in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur has created a “Special Investigation Task Group Ordaniza” with the objective to fast track the investigation and arrest of those behind the gunslaying of a former communist rebel turned radio reporter.

In the task force, two media practitioners, Jong Cadion, CNN Philippines correspondent andJezreel Himang of Power 99 FM were selected as main persons who will give information on the background of Elvis Banggoy Ordaniza of the Power 99 FM, who was shot dead in Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday.

During the task force conference, police gathered from Himang, a colleague of the victim at Power 99 FM, that Ordaniza was a former rebel until year 2000, when returned to civilian life. He was a KBP accredited member and a field volunteer reporter of DXWO Power 99 FM. He was very critical against the rampant drug trade and illegal gambling in the province.

Information also gathered from Insp. Orlyn Leyte, chief of Pitogo Municipal Police Station, that Ordaniza was always tapped as media representative and witness during the inventory of confiscated items on drug buy-bust operations; he was sometimes utilized as security person of Mayor Garban of Pitogo and Mayor Jun Babasa of the Municipalty of Bayog.

The initial focus of the investigation is the victim’s being a hardline radio commentator of Power 99 FM.

Police said he might have created enemies during his commentaries as revealed by his colleagues. Also to be considered is his involvement as active media representative during drug bust operations of the Pitogo police. – Dan Toribio Jr.
