Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ricardo Marquez on Wednesday expressed all profound gratitude to Mayor Beng Climaco for the city’s aggressive support to the police that helps improve anti-crime efforts.

In a brief meeting with Mayor Climaco at the City Police Office during his visit to the city early this week, the PNP chief cited the City Government’s ever-increasing assistance and support that include transportation, communication, infrastructure facilities as well as rifles and ammunitions, fuel, office supplies and allowances.

Under the Climaco administration, the city has more than doubled its investment in the Peace and Order Program with an aggregate allocation of P595.3 million from 2013 to 2015. Among the highlights of this support are the 50 units motorcycles turned over and the provision of additional firearms and ammunitions in 2015.    A total of P29.9 million has been allocated for the construction of the Zamboanga Central Police Office building.

According to Marquez, the PNP deeply appreciates the gesture of the local government in prioritizing security in its agenda. He vowed that the police will exhaust all efforts to ensure safety and protection of the people of Zamboanga.

The enormous support from the local government of Zamboanga contributes a lot to the readiness and preparedness of law enforcers which can only be reciprocated through efficient and effective service, he added.

The PNP director and the mayor together with other police officials also discussed about maritime security and fusion of PNP and Task Force Zamboanga Command center. — Sheila Covarrubias
