Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila De Lima recommended on Wednesday the immediate relief of the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) responsible for the security of the DOJ’s Witness Protection Program (WPP) in Zamboanga City.

De Lima made the move following the shooting incident wherein a policeman and a witness in a kidnapping incident were killed while two others were wounded Tuesday.

Those killed were identified as Police Officer 1 Tomas Dauba and the unnamed witness while those wounded were Police Officer 3 Carmelito Macansantos and civilian Marvin Agullana.

De Lima said that the policemen were supposed to protect their witnesses in the WPP, but it seemed ironic that they were the ones who even started the shooting incident which resulted in the death of their witness.

However, De Lima refused to give the details of the case wherein the witness was the slain victim.
Likewise, De Lima also assured that they will conduct their own investigation of the incident.
