Kidnappers released a college student last Saturday morning few days after he was seized in Sulu.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado of the joint Task Group Sulu identified the released kidnap victim as Omar Carlo Masdal, 20, single, a student of Sulu State College and a resident of Godinez, Latih, Patikul, Sulu. He is a nephew of MNLF commander Habier Malik.

Masdal was freed around 11 a.m. in Barangay Latih, Patikul, Sulu.

Masdal was reportedly seized last February 14 around 11:30 a.m. in Barangay Buanza, Indanan, Sulu.

A police report said that Masdal was seized by the group of Ajang-Ajang , a wealthy family in the province.

The release of Masdal was made possible thru negotiations facilitated by some MNLF commanders.

Masdal reunited with his family around 6 p.m. Saturday. – Dan Toribio
