Two men carrying firearms were arrested in connection with the Comelec gun ban at Sitio Sulipang, Barangay Lower Patiluban, Panamao, Sulu last Saturday.

Joint Task Group Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado disclosed that men of the Panamao Municipal Police Station were manning a checkpoint and implementing the Comelec gun ban around 11:15 a.m. when two men riding tandem o n a motorcycle came in.

Police noticed that they were armed with high powered firearms and during investigation thet could not produce documents legalizing them to carry and possess guns.

Arojado identified the duo as Hajirul Maing Mamoh and Alloh Julkanain Salahuddin, both of Kalinggalan Caluang, Sulu.

Recovered from their possession were an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle and a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition.

Arrojado said that before the arrest of the two, police and military had received a report about the sighting of six armed men believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf under Alhabsi Misaya.

The two were detained pending the filing of charges in court. – Dan Toribio
