RMU-9 chief dialogues with fisherfolks PDF Print E-mail

Supt. Salbino Piad, chief of the Regional Maritime Unit-9, held a dialogue with fisherfolks of Zamboanga Peninsula at their headquarters in Baliwasan Seaside on Tuesday.

Piad said the dialogue was aimed to inform fisherfolks in the region on the need to register their boats below the tonnage of three tons.

Piad asked the participants to relay the information to other boat owners who have not yet registered their seacraft and  were not able to  attend the dialogue.

He said  the participants pledged to help the Regional Maritime Unit-9 to inform boat owners not present in the dialogue.

Piad likewise asked the participants to help the maritime troopers fight illegal fishing like the use of cyanide, dynamites and persons who destroy the environment.

He also urged fisherfolks to help preserve the environment  and plant more mangroves for the protection of the environment.

Piad asked  the people in the region to provide them with vital information which they send through text messagse regarding illegal fishing activities as well as suspected lawless elements in their community. The participants to the dialogue came from Zamboanga City, Basilan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga  del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte. — Allen Abastillas
