Mayor Beng Climaco on Sunday, February 28, led Zamboangueños in a series of activities to commemorate the centennial birth anniversary of the legendary Mayor Cesar Cortes Climaco also known as CCC.

The activity kicked off with a mass at the Climaco Freedom Park attended by the relatives of the late mayor, City Government officials and employees and representatives from other government and non-government institutions including the barangay sector and academe. Fr. Filmore Calibo officiated the mass.

The mass was followed by the launching of the comic series about the life and works of CCC entitled “El Vida de Cesar C. Climaco which comes in 3 parts —“Part 1: Cesar Como un Bata” is written by Gabriel Perez, “Part 2: Cesar Cuando na Secondaria” written by Anthony Diaz Verzosa, and “Part 3: Si Cesar Como un Contrario del Soborno Y Corrupcion,” written by Raymund Nonato Faustino, all illustrated by Victor Ian Marcos Covarrubias.

Mayor Beng Climaco shared that the publication is a tribute to CCC for his charisma, courage and compassion. “Su maga legacia na ciudad de Zamboanga ta continua beneficia el presente generacion y el maga generacion que viene,” (His legacy in the city of Zamboanga continues to benefit the present generation and the generations to come).

She further said that Mayor Cesar C. Climaco, her uncle, was an important figure in Zamboanga City’s colorful history, and even to this day, those who are familiar with his legacy, continue to celebrate his life. She stressed that the publication is also done to reintroduce CCC to the young generation or those who are not aware of his accomplishments and contributions to Zamboanga. CCC was one of the most flamboyant Zamboanguenos whose name is synonymous to courage and toughness and is well remembered for his colorful personality particularly his long hair and fondness for children.

From the Climaco Freedom Park, the activities moved to the Pasonanca Park for the official unveiling of marker of the Pasonanca tree house in Camp Jose Atilano campsite.

Considered as one of the legacies of the late CCC, the Pasonanca tree house has been refurbished and is equipped with twin beds and bathroom. It is located at the top of the heritage acacia tree at the Pasonanca Park.

The commemoration of CCC’s centennial birth anniversary will culminate Monday, Feb 29 with the Cesar Climaco Young Leaders Assembly at the Centro Latino.
