The Regional Maritime Unit-9 is currently conducting a series of rehabilitation  of its assets, buildings and patrol boats as Philippine National Police  Maritime Group National Director Efren M. Perez together with top officials of Camp Crame will conduct an assessment and ocular inspection in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Supt. Salbino Piad, chief, RMU-9, said that the building for boats needs to be painted because it is made of iron steel and  prone to rust.

“We need to repaint it with anti- metal rust paint so that it will not destroyed  by rust because our command office is near the beach”, Piad said.

He revealed that the construction of the RMU-9 building and the gun boats of his command were funded by the US government.

The US government also helped in the construction of  a gun boat and command building in Bongao Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, Sarangani province and other areas last year.

Perez is also scheduled to conduct a visit in Barangay Bolong to inspect the land area of the  proposed national headquarters of the Maritime Police.

Piad explained that his command is expected to have a new asset for combating lawlessness at sea, illegal fishing and human trafficking.

“We need to maintain the good condition of our patrol boats so that we can maintain a regular seaborne patrol. We also thank Mayor Isebelle Climaco- Salazar for giving as regularly fuel for our patrol boats that we use for our seaborne operations,” Piad said. -Allen Abastillas
