Ten houses were gutted down in a fire that broke out at an urban poor resettlement site in Luyahan, Pasonancae Thursday night.

A report from the Sta. Maria Police Station said the fire was broke out at one of the houses belonging to a member of the Hilltop Urban Poor Association in Luyahan around 8:20 p.m.  The flames spread the to other houses.

Police and fire investigators said that the affected houses were made of light materials.

Some of the fire victims said the blaze started at the house of their neighbor identified as Emely Mangubat caused by lighted candle.

Occupants of the houses hurriedly vacated and saved their lives and belongings.

A male house owner, whose identity was not immediately known, sustained minor burns in the body and was treated immediately.

Affected families were temporarily sheltered at Luyahan Elementary School. – Dan Toribio Jr.
