An Abu Sayyaf militant was captured after a brief encounter with government troops in Barangay Latih, Patikul, Sulu last Monday afternoon.

Joint Task Group Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arojado identified the arrested militant as Hatib Ullai Usman Namla.

Confiscated from his possession was a .45 caliber pistol with rounds of ammunition.

Arojado said that troops from the army’s 35 IB led by 1Lt. Barbosa clashed with Abu Sayyaf gunmen for 10 minutes around 3:45 p.m. .

The gunmen withdrew towardsunknown direction after many of their comrades were believed wounded. No casualty on the government side.

Namla was cornered by the soldiers while trying to escape.
