The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) on Wednesday convened police, military and health authorities, volunteers and other concerned agencies in preparation for the observance of holy week next from March 21-27.

CDRMMO head and OIC City Administrator Elmeir Apolinario said the city government wants to make sure that everything is in place for the Holy Week with the ultimate goal of ensuring the safety and protection of the people who will troop to the Climaco Freedom Park or Abong-abong in Pasonanca, Catholic churches and other places of devotion for their Lenten rituals.

Mayor Climaco is set to issue two executive orders, one providing for the implementation of a temporary re-routing scheme on roads leading to Mayor Cesar Climaco Freedom Park, Pasonanca for the duration of the observance of the holy week and the other one imposing a prohibition on the bringing, sale and drinking of liquor/ intoxicating drinks at the freedom park during the holy week. Prohibition in the bringing of backpacks is also included in the executive order.

The police and military have prepared a comprehensive security plan while the City Health office will establish health stations at the Climaco Freedom park to provide first aid to people who would be encountering health problems while doing their Lenten rituals.

Present during the coordinative meeting held at the CDRRMO conference room were City Police OIC Director PSupt. Lito Magnaye, the police chiefs from the different police stations in the city, representatives from Task Force Zamboanga, City Health office, General Services Office, Zamboanga Red Cross, radio clubs, concerned barangay officials and other agencies. — Sheila Covarrubias
