Four members of the Marawi City fire bureau and two volunteers were badly injured Wednesday when their fire truck crashed while responding to a conflagration in nearby Ditsaan-Ramain town in Lanao del Sur.

Superintendent Adam Guiamad, director of the Bureau of Fire Protection in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said the victims are now confined in a hospital.

Adam identified the injured BFP personnel as Dipangampongan Borar, Mubarak Macalawi, Cardawi Pao and Mofid Pakir.

Also injured were fire volunteers named Jamal Lomondot and Amir Mamayandog.

The victims sustained fractures and head injuries, he said.

Guiamad said a villager, Amil Alih, who was to guide the team to the scene of the fire, was also hurt in the accident.

Police investigators are still trying to determine why the fire truck, which first swerved to one side of the highway uncontrollably, flipped and rolled over twice, causing injuries to its passengers.

“It’s an old truck which we just keep operable through daily maintenance routines because of the urgent need for it,” Guiamad said.

Local officials said the Marawi City fire bureau dispatched the fire truck to Ditsaan-Ramain after receiving a report that two adjoining houses there were being razed down by fire.

Guiamad said the Ditsaan-Ramain local government unit does not have a fire truck.

He said his office will extend assistance to the victims of the accident.
