An unexploded fragmentation grenade was recovered in Barangay Salaan Thursday afternoon.

Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon,  Culianan Police Station commander, said Luis Dela Cruz Saavedra Jr., a habal-habal motorcycle  driver, reported to them the discovery of a grenade.

Report said the explosive was found by some children who were walking along Sitio San Antonio, Salaan around 3:30 p.m.. They spotted the grenade and later turned it over to Saavedra.

Police said the explosive was found on a cornfield along the road.

Bomb experts retrieved it and brought it to the Bomb Squad office in RT Lim Boulevard for propr disposition.

Meanwhile, a resident of Mampang set on fire a pile of dried grasses before noon Thursday triggering a loud explosion.

A post blast investigation conducted by bomb experts disclosed that it was fragmentation grenade that exploded.

It was learned that there was an abandoned unexploded grenade amid the grasses when it was set on fire. The grenade exploded due to the heat.
