Eight families displaced by fire last January received cash assistance from the City Government in line with the city’s continuing social services.

Mayor Beng Climaco personally distributed the financial aid in simple rites held at the office of the mayor Friday afternoon.

The grant of cash aid to calamity victims is a regular program of the local government and is mandated through a resolution from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council formerly the City Disaster and Management Council.

Of the 8 families who received cash assistance, 3 were displaced by the January 7 fire incident in La Paz while 5 were affected by the January 20 fire incident in Recodo.

Five of the beneficiaries who were house owners with totally damaged houses received P5, 000 each while 3 were house sharers/renters and received P3, 000 each. The amount of cash assistance is set by the CDRRMC.

Mayor Climaco said the assistance given to the displaced families is purposely to help them alleviate their plight. — Sheila Covarrubias
