Pamaran heads PSA-IX PDF Print E-mail

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region IX now has its first full-fledged regional director in the person of Ms. Mewchun Wingsiong-Pamaran.

Appointed by President Benigno C. Aquino III on March 4, 2016, Pamaran took her oath of office on March 8, 2016. The oath taking was administered by the Regional Director of Civil Service Commission IX, Atty. Macybel Alfaro-Sahi, at the CSC IX Office, Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.

The PSA’s National Statistician and Civil Registrar General, Dr. Lisa Grace S. Bersales, signed her assumption of duty at the PSA Head Office in Quezon City.

A Career Service Executive Eligible, Pamaran graduated from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce in 1982 where she completed her Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 1994. She earned her doctoral degree, PhD in Development Studies, also from the Ateneo in 2010. Prior to her appointment as Regional Director, Dr. Pamaran was a full-time College faculty of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University from 1983-1991; Regional Head of the defunct National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) Region IX from April 1, 1991-December 31, 2014; Officer-in-Charge of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division of PSA IX from January 1-December 31, 2015; and OIC-Regional Director since January 1, 2016.

The PSA was created through the merging of the four statistical agencies, namely: the NSCB; National Statistics Office (NSO); the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) of the Department of Agriculture; and the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES) of the Department of Labor and Employment, pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625 also known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, which was signed by President Benigno C. Aquino III on September 12, 2013.

Born in Jolo, Sulu, she went to primary school at Notre Dame of Jolo and completed her secondary education at Pilar College, Zamboanga City in 1978.

Pamaran is married to Edwin Flores Pamaran. They are blessed with three daughters: Noelle Angela, Michelle Anne and Marielle Carmela. — Rose Manalo/PSA IX
