The City Government together with the West Metro Medical Center will be offering free pap smear screening services to personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and City Hall this week in line with the Women’s Month celebration.

Dubbed Ladies First: West Metro Medical Center Free Pap Smear Test and Manual Breast Exam, the initiative will focus on the provision of free pap smear tests and manual breast examination to 80 policewomen of the PNP on March 17 at Mercedes, and 80 employees of the City Government on March 18.

Performing the exams will be Obstetrics – Gynecology specialists who will provide the beneficiaries with a thorough orientation on the exams to be administered and the rationale behind them.

According to Yen Blanco Delgado, marketing officer of the West Metro Medical Center, the initiative is a way of giving back to the women of the PNP and City Hall for their dedication and commitment to service.

The Mayo Clinic defines a pap smear, or a pap test, as a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. The manual breast exam, on the other hand, is a screening method used for early detection of breast cancer. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
