49 applied for absentee voting in Zambo Pen PDF Print E-mail

Only 49 persons have applied for absentee voting for the May 9, 2016 general elections.

Commission on Elections Regional Director Remlane M. Tambuang disclosed that the last filing by persons for absentee voting was on March 10, 2016.

Tambuang said most of those who applied are members of the Philipine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He said he is scheduled to preside a meeting in Pagadian City on March 21 for the Regional Joint Security Coordinating Center.

The Comelec’s series of conferences with the police and military focus on the deployment of troopers to the different areas in the region as under the COMELEC wathclists areas, among which are Sibuco, Sirawai, Siocon and Baliguian (3SB ) in Zamboanga del Norte,  Tungawan in Zamboanga Sibugay, Dinas, Tukuran, Labangan and Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur.

“ We are also closely watching Zamboanga City because even though it is silent on politicial rivalry, we can not make sure what happens? We closely monitor every area in the region but generally it is peaceful in Zamboanga Peninsula,” Tambuang said.

On the other hand, Tambuang disclosed that the different political parties and stakeholders for peaceful election in Zamboanga del Norte are scheduled to conduct a peace covenant.

“We lower it down to municipal level. Dipolog City and Dapitan City have also a peace covenant with different political parties to ensure peaceful election. Some areas in Zamboanga del Sur and Pagadian City have also done  their peace covenant and Zamboanga Sibugay,” Tambuang said. — Allen Abastillas
