Lamitan City is a recipient of projects from the Japan International Cooperation Agency ( JICA ).

Mayor Rose U. Furigay said the JICA projects are very  useful and necessary for people’s activities especially for the education of the youth.

Furigay identified two of the projects as a school building in  B. Aldana Central School and the “ Mother and Child Building”  located  at the side of the City Council building near the City Hall. The building is under the management of the Department of Social Welfare  and Development. It is used for indoor activities of the DSWD in training people for the development of the youth and women.

Another project of JICA is the construction of the Philippine Ports of Authority terminal building which is now utilized for people in coming in and going to Zamboanga City and vice versa.

Furigay said the city provided also the counterpart funds for the completion of the JICA projects, currently utilized by the people. — Allen Abastillas
