The Department of Transportation and Communication-Regional Management Council 9 activated on Friday the “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe Semana Santa 2016”.

Land Transportation Office-9 Director Aminola P. Abaton, concurrently chairman of DOTC- RMC9, said the council has established a “Help Desk” in every  bus terminal, airport and seaport in the region to assist passengers.

Abaton said they are expecting a heavy influx of people from different places in the country to come intothe region to take vacation, going home after schooling and join their families during the Holy Week.

He advised motorvehicle drivers to always double check the road worthiness and condition of their vehicle before taking the road so that accident can be prevented.

Members of DOTC-RMC 9 are LTO-9, Philippine Ports Authority-9, Maritime Industry and Authority, Philippine Coast Guards, National Telecommunication and Communication, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and others.

On the otherhand, LTO-9’d Law Enforcers Division Chief Allan Macabangkit reported to Director Abaton that two passenger vans taking the Ipil-Zamboanga City route were apprehended because of  expired franchise.

“We closely monitor and watch every terminal in the region for PUV operating without franchise,” Macabangkit said.

He urged PUV owners not to operate without renewing their franchise because the fines and penalites once apprehended is stiff — ranging from P 120,000 to one million pesos per unit. — Allen Abastillas
