Mom, daughter hurt in pillbox explosion PDF Print E-mail

A 62-year-old woman and her daughter were injured when a man lobbed a pillbox bomb  into their house at Riverside, Presa Mayor in Tumaga early yesterday morning.

The victims were identified as Merta Lobetaña y Halasan and her daughter Marivic Abne y Lobetaña. They sustained minor injuries in their legs and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the victims’ two-storey house made of light material was damaged in the attack.

Initial investigation showed that the house occupants were inside their house around 4:30 a.m. when they heard something fell in their house followed by an explosion.

The perpetrator hurriedly left the place.

The Lobetaña family suspected a person known to them, but whose identity has been withheld, was the culprit.

Police also confirmed that it was a pillbox explosive usually being used by some street gangs in the attack.

The Sta. Maria police station under Supt. Haywien Salvado has readied charges against suspect. – Dan Toribio
