The city government is all set for the crowd expected to flock the Abong-Abong Park for annual observance of the Lenten Season in the city.

Lead office City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has assured that security, medical and other measures are in place in anticipation of any and all eventualities in relation to the Christian tradition.

An emergency medical team will be on a six-hour rotation at the medical station Thursday and Friday at the Abong-Abong Park to make sure people experiencing health problems during their climb to Cruz Mayor will be given prompt first aid response. The medical team will be composed of personnel from the City Health Office and the CDRRMO Emergency Medical Service as well as their counterparts from the Department of Health and the Philippine National Red Cross.

In addition, a search and rescue team as well as a police assistance desk will be on standby to assist visiting faithful.

Considering the likelihood of fire breaking out as an effect of the worsening El Niño phenomenon in Zamboanga City, the Bureau of Fire Protection will post several firemen and at least one truck in the vicinity.

Portalets will likewise be installed and a CDRRMO water tanker will be on standby for hygienic and sanitary purposes. — Claudine Uniana
