The City Administrator’s Office will start on Monday a massive campaign against erring tricycle drivers, particularly those charging their passengers over and beyond the specified fare matrix.

Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, officer-in-charge of the City Administrator’s Office, announced at the press briefing that the campaign is an offshoot of the numerous complaints by the riding public against the overcharging tricycle drivers.

He said the campaign will be carried out on a day-to-day basis by the local police together with Task Force Zamboanga and barangay tanod in areas concerned, and the Tricycle Adjudication Board (TAB).

A space has been reserved at the grandstand where to impound the violators’ tricycle units.

On several occasions recently, the netizens have gone to the social and mainstream media to voice out their complaints and disgust against tricycle drivers, who charged them with exorbitant fare—way above the amount prescribed in the matrix for tricycles.

These notorious drivers were notably plying the sea and air ports, malls and even downtown areas, on the pretext of heavy traffic.

As this developed, Dr. Apolinario said the TAB members headed by City Legal Officer Jesus C. Carbon Jr. as chairman will be meeting to revisit and revise the executive order issued in 2012 regarding the tricycle operation in Zamboanga City.— Vic Larato
