Kidnappers with possible link with the Abu Sayyaf seized a 70-year-old businessman and his grandson at Purok San Francisco, Barangay Marwing, Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur Wednesday night.

Police identified the victims as Antonio Tan and grandson Ryan Nuñeza, 21.

Antonio and Ryan were snatched while their store was about to close around 6:05 p.m.

Witnesses told the police the victims were dragged to the shore where they boarded two pumpboats called “bote-bote” that sped towards  Zamboanga Sibugay area.

The incident was reported immediately to the nearest police and military installations for possible rescue of the victims.

An informed source said the abduction was done in the open with neighbors, including barangay tanods helpless because the kidnappers were fully armed.

The same source said Antonio  is very sick and has been coming in and out of the hospital.

The kidnapping took place several days after a notorious commander of a kidnap-for-ransom group Wanning Abdusalam was killed in Zamboanga Sibugay after he resisted arrest.

The group of Abdusalam with link to the Abu Sayyaf was blamed for the many kidnappings  in Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur. —  Dan Toribio
